Lessons & Clinics

"WHEN WE LET GO OF OUR AGENDA, WE CAN ENJOY OUR JOURNEY.Shea Stewart
HORSEMANSHIP & RIDING LESSONS
Shea helps people from all backgrounds with their riding skills. The main focus is how to read and understand your horse better. However, Shea's riding lessons will also help you become a proactive rider. Shea will teach you how to use your body more efficiently so you can ride without stress, and so your horse can use his body better. She will help you recognize when your horse is forward and balanced, which is an important aspect of keeping your horse mentally and physically healthy and sound.

This rider learns how to direct her mare's thoughts with the timing and feel of her reins. This can help a busy minded or nervous horse get more settled and feel more connected to their rider.

An integral part of Shea's training program is involving the horse owner. Shea's lessons help the owner to really listen to the horse and understand the moment-to-moment feel behind the mechanics.
This owner experiences her first ride on a young mare Shea has started. Now Shea begins the process of helping the owner learn the feel that the mare knows.

Shea helps a rider put the first trot steps on his horse. After working from the ground, the mare understands moving up in transitions from forward energy. Now she learns it from her back with Shea's help on the ground.
Once a person learns how to read a horse and develop feel, they can apply any method and be successful.
Both horse and rider learn the feel and timing behind the reins. The mare learns to step her forehand out, and the rider learns the timing of her foot falls.

Shea also helps horse owners work through challenging issues with their horses, such as spookiness, fear of crossing water, and numerous other issues that can come up on the trail.

This rider learns how to support her horse in spooky situations while in a controlled environment. The rider directs the horse to focus on Shea instead of trying to flee, until Shea can pet him from the fence. This will help him build confidence for trail rides, and give the rider tools to work with when a situation arises.
SHEA'S HORSEMANSHIP & RIDING CLINICS
Shea travels to different areas to teach horsemanship and riding clinics. The clinics are designed for the individual needs of each horse and rider. They are an opportunity for riders to improve their horsemanship skills, and to better understand how to help certain needs their horses may have. Some people come because they have a specific problem that they want addressed, and others come to see what more they can learn from their horse. The calendar page lists dates and contact information for current clinics. If you wish to schedule a clinic with Shea, please call or email to discuss possibilities.
WHOLE HORSEMANSHIP EDUCATION
Shea hosts a variety of workshops at her facility to help educate horse owners in different aspects of horsemanship. Learning how to ride, and learning good horsemanship skills are just a piece of the whole picture. Shea believes that every horse owner should have a good knowledge and understanding of proper saddle fit, and proper hoof care and trimming, and understand how to recognize when their horse has a pain issue.
